The design was inspired by the United States of America (USA) coins. The Native America coin design is printed on the front left chest. Instead of having a dollar amount at the bottom of the coin design it reads 574 Tribes, the number of federally recognized tribes in the USA. Their are more tribes that are not recognized and still fighting for their recognition. Approximately 400 tribes do not have federal recognition, per a 2012 Government Accountability Office report. Federal recognition gives tribes the right to self-governance and access to federal funding and programs. This design was created to inspire resiliency and to educate.
